Giving back has always played an important role in Melba’s life over the past 30 years. She was a board member of Friendly House for over a decade, the first recovery home for women in the United States, and served as President of the Board of Directors for several years. She was on the Board of Directors for the Washington Prep High School of the Performing Arts Odell Theatre Foundation, and was involved in fundraising for Crystal Stairs (welfare to work program & quality children’s day care), Rowell’s Foster Children’s Positive Plan, Artist For A New South Africa and Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals as well as many other Animal Rescue Organizations. Most recently she Co-chaired the first fundraising event in Los Angeles for Fonkoze, a foundation that helps the poorest of the poor women and children in Haiti. Presently, she serves as treasurer and board member of the WACO Theatre Center (Where Art Can Occur) and is a Tina’s Angels Mentor, one of the Foundation programs.
Melba, a graduate of the UCLA Environmental & Interior Design Program, is an Interior Designer specializing in residential, commercial design and space planning and is a professional member of The American Society of Interior Designers. Her design projects have taken her around the globe. Also a Production Designer and Art Director, she has worked on numerous movies, television shows and music videos. She is also an Art Consultant and represents several fine artist.
Melba, a native Los Angeleno, is married and has two sons, a granddaughter and a grandson.
