EDUCATION

WACO’s signature education programs provide opportunities for young people through mentorship and skills building, and our audiences through public dialogue.

Tina’s Angels and Richard’s Warriors

A partnership with KIPP Academy, Angels and Warriors is a year-long mentorship program that uses art to facilitate personal development and growth for young people ages 14-18. The program aims to empower participants to identify their dreams, and with a personal mentor, gain the clarity, discipline and skill to achieve those dreams. The program curriculum includes off site field trips and workshops with guest artists to foster skill development and awareness of careers in the arts.

Films For Teens By Teens

Utilizing film as a tool for self-expression, communication, and mental health awareness, this program is offered to students across Greater Los Angeles. Participants have the opportunity to develop their voices, learn about themselves, and ultimately elevate and empower their stories through filmmaking. This program is supported in part by AT&T, Horowitz Family Foundation, Shea Moisture and WarnerMedia

College-ish College and Career Fair

First hosted in 2018, this program introduces students to the academic possibilities at universities, and offers an in-depth look into the nuances of on-campus life. Participants meet with representatives, current students and alumni from local and national programs, with a particular focus on Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU).

WACO in a Box

Teaching artists develop comprehensive guides that transform artistic work presented on the WACO stage into a digestible study guide and interactive activities that connect to STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) learning objectives. Each box includes all handouts, props, costumes and any additional materials necessary for instruction. The program is accessible to classroom teachers in the Los Angeles Unified School District and boxes are provided at little or no cost to the participating schools.
