50IN50

Monologues written and performed by women

For two consecutive years (2018 and 2019), we partnered with Brooklyn’s Billie Holiday Theatre to co-present 50in50, noted as “a platform for agency and empowerment so that any woman or girl can share her story, regardless of class, race, age, ability, gender identity, nationality or sexual orientation.” A group of 50 women considered both the world they inherited and the one they’d like to create.

50 original monologues – selected from hundreds of submissions from women of African descent from across the globe – was read by renowned actors. Presented live to sold out audiences (99-seat theatre) over two days each year with two performances each day, the events were filled with emotion, unique points-of-view, and love. The 50in50 selected writers came from across the United States to as far as India and are brave, fierce and nothing short of magical.
